"George...My wife found this card in some old files. Bill Bailey was her father who worked at WKGN back in 1966. I guess this was an advertising card used by the station and the jocks to get the word out to the community with the latest survey on the back. Bill worked at several stations around the country, including WLIK in Newport." (David Lambert)

"Hi George...I've been following 101 for a couple of years now, but haven't, until now, checked in. I worked at WBIR for 2 years from 1965 to 1967 and then at WIVK from 1967 to 1970. Did 7 to midnight for awhile at WIVK and had a popular semi-regular "Love-In" show featuring positive country love songs (music to make love to). Many great memories of Booby, Claude, Ed, Ron, Kenny, Norm, Mike, Terry, etc. and the boss man, Jim Dick, of course. Doc Johnston was a great guy and a mentor. Also worked in Jacksonville and WQYK Tampa (morning drive). Was Operations Director at several stations and put an album-oriented country station on the air in Medford Oregon as well as Station Manager at a small market station in Texas. I'm retired from radio, but still working in sales in Bloomington Illinois but really miss K-Town." (Jack Hansen)

"About Rex...once during "The Early Show" days, my childhood friend and I rode our bikes (or walked the bikes) up Sharp's Ridge. Doc Johnston gave us a tour of WBIR TV studios. The thing I remember is the two 16 MM RCA projectors facing one another, projecting into a mirror. When I met Rex, he greeted us with a "UN-GAWAA", ie- Tarzen howdy...from that day on when I was involved with wrestling, (Hutcheston Ave) Rex And I would greet one another with, "UN-GAWAA"...Memories!" Today's generation only knows him as the PA announcer at the Vols football games, but back in the day Bobby Denton was one of Ktown's most popular DJs!

"I remember watching Rex Rainey with his additional duties on the Early Show and the Late Show on WBIR TV. He would always do a little talk segment with community announcements and then give some behind the scenes information about the (usually a Tarzan) movie they were showing. Does anyone know more about him?" (Jerry Howell)

101 is participating in an exciting project, The Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame is being formed by Lee Dorman and others and I've been invited to be on the advisory council!

Happy Birthday wishes also to the one and only Chip Emerson!

101 mentioned the early AM dial positions...there were also alot of nearby stations that impacted Ktown, including WATO 1290 in Oak Ridge. From the 101 Audio Vault here's Jeff Winters and Rudy Minter~

"I remember Doc Johnston's theme song as beginning: "Hi, kids, get ready to go, with the Date with Doc show!" Could that possibly be right? He also did a late afternoon news roundup on WBIR-AM, before co-anchoring the 6 o'clock news with Carl Williams on WBIR-TV. At that time, those local people, along with (on Channel 10) Rex Rainey and Jim Holiday, and (on Channel 6) Charles MacMahon, were as big as any network stars. I was in elementary school, and these people were ON TV." (Wayne Wood)
