He's still on the radio, in fact he'll be on NewsTalk 98.7 WOKI this morning at 10a.
This week Bob celebrated his 50 (nifty fifty) year anniversary of his first fulltime gig on the radio, midnight to 6a on WKGN The Famous 1340.
From there it was a fast ride...decades at WIVK with the highest rated midday program in America, followed by Hollywood, think "Slammin' Sammy" on the hit Friday Night Lights, to a return to East Tennesse, hello politics as a county commissioner, then the iconic Ed and Bob Show on the WNOX-FM 100.3 blow torch, what a wonderful way to start one's day.
These days Bob is the swing announcer aka he fills in for the fulltime personalities on NewsTalk 987...mornings for Phil, middays for Bob Y, and afternoons for Triple H. He's as fresh, vibrant, and purposeful on the air as any announcer in the industry.
So it's this week in 1974...Bob had joined WKGN as a weekend jock. Shortly thereafter PD Wayne Bernard exits for sister station WMAK in Nashville, same as many other WKGN Good Guys had - Possum Riley, Smokey Burns, etc.
