Thank you 2010...it's been a fun year at 101 and thanks to modern technology it's now a smaller world~ radio around the world is now just an "app" away!

Here's our friend Mick Rizzo...

"Hey George--Hope my note finds you prospering! Always great to take a little break and breeze thru 101 for some, "shits & giggles"! This past week brought me back down the 15Q Memory Lane with mentions of Kid Curry and Rockin' Ron Baptist..I'll never forget the Glass Menagerie that was home to 15Q--High above the Vol Campus-- with an eight story Nursing Dorm just a few buildings away!! Talk about Hog Heaven!!! Jan 6th marks my 60th Birthday--which is incomprehensible to me!!! I blink my eyes and swear I can see Curry, Baptist, Beach, Lambert, Beck, Sneedo and Gary Adkins like it was yesterday...Einstein was right-- as you approach the speed of light, time slows down...Wish all 101 fans a Joyous and Prosperous 2011! Keep up the great work!!!"

101 flashes back to the spring of '81...

WOKI was on the dial at FM 100 and featured Mike Beverly, Chuck Edwards, Rich Randall, Brother John, and Lynn Wright.

Dale Ellis was a sophomore at UT and was a starter for the BasketVols along with Steve Ray, Howard Wood, Gary Carter, and Ed Littleton.

Adele Arakawa was about to exit radio to do the weather on WTVK TV 26.

If you were a Braves fan, you were listening to Ernie Johnson, Skip Caray, Pete Van Wieren, and Darrell Chaney call the games!

The Joe Show exited WIVK nights and was replaced by Bill Martin.

And over at 102.1 FM, WSEV was becoming WMYU and the Program Director was Bill Burkett. Today 101 says happy birthday to Bill!

101 hopes you had a wonderful Christmas and are enjoying the snowy holidays...

"George...In the mid-to-late 70's lots of radio stations fielded basketball and softball teams to help organizations raise money. I remember playing many basketball games with WOKI's "The Force" during that time. We had cool red/yellow uniforms and lots of gifted players who played against teams comprised of PTA leaders, high school football staff (those were rough), University of Tennessee football players, and even local officials. And we played in great venues like the Pittman Center Elementary School, Bell County High School, and Tennessee School for the Deaf. All for good, charitable causes. I'll never forget "Fast Eddie" Wilson's girlfriend, "Bubbles" LaRue, cheerleading for The Force, Scott Sams hitting the key shot in a game at Vonore High School, and Mike Beverly driving the baseline for a layup (nobody would get in his way!). We even got Jack McAmis out there hoopin' it up. So, there was more to the voices behind the mike than just their voices....there were actually some pretty good athletes (although several were just athletic supporters." (Dave Lambert)

"George, I learned of the passing of DAVE BROWN, long time Engineer at WATO in Oak Ridge. The Obit is in the Sentinel." (Ernie Sutton)

Bob Thomas, like many of us, got his on air start in Lenoir City at WBLC 1360.

Most of us know Bob as the 20 year midday DJ at WIVK and most recently as cohost on the WNOX FM 100 news/talk morning show as part of "Ed and Bob".

My intro to Bob was when he became a jock at the very good sounding WKGN 1340 in late 1974...and they had some great sounding DJs during Bob's one year tenure~ Dave Young, Frank Erwin, Wayne Bernard, Rick Davis, (Joe Anderson and Jean Ash- news), Tollie Michaels, David Todd, Todd Martin, Jay Richards, Dr. Al Adams, Mike Beach, Phil Michaels, Kris "with a K" Lee (Kerry Lambert)...

Did you know that Bob next worked at WBIR 1240...and what was his on air name?

Flash forward one more year and Bob jumped in feet first to the major market sounding 15Q. From the 101 Audio Vault here's Bob in August '76~

He's Back...

"Hi George...Just a note to let you know I am back on the internet after a long absence. Some say I wondered off in the mountains and got lost. Others presumed I was in jail. Still, others say I was in the "nut house"! The latter might have a little bit of truth to it...he he he! Anyway, I am back and had to check out your blog and recall those wonderous days of radio and all the freaks whom I shared some time with in those days. It's always a joy to read about those days of low pay and all the records we could steal...err...take on loan! Anyway, my email address is- Bill.Beason@yahoo.com Hope to hear from y'all. Take care." (Bill Beason aka Buzz Dailey)
