"George...Had the pleasure of hookin' up with two old hippies of Knoxville radio from the early 70's this past weekend in Vero Beach. On the far left is "The Hawk" Billy Hawkins...he flew high at night on W-149 back in the day. I did afternoons and the guy on the far right is Frank Costa. Frank did air work and lots of other stuff at the station. Needless to say, a great time was had by all. The conversation picked up where we all left off...40 years ago. Fantastic. Some may not know, but WROL/W-149 was one of the first "underground rock stations" in the United States. We had no idea how historic it was at the time. Thanks Pirkle, Sterchi and the rest of the gang. True pioneers." (MB~Mike Beach)
