Former ktown DJ Mike Swaggerty passed away this week...if you've got a Mike story, send to 101!
May his memory be eternal!
"I worked with Mike Swaggerty at WKGN back in the bad old disco days (Kerry Lambert was PD). He was a cool as it got back then, just starting his career as a club DJ, but he never forgot his down home roots. Sad to see him sign off. " (Tom Jester)
It's 101 Reload time...
Lester: When I die I hope I don't go to heaven in one of these things.
Old Man Schultz: I don't think you have anything to worry about.
Well...it was funny at the time LOL!

Do you still play DJ while driving in your car listening to music? I do...
Happy President's Day!
My radio career was short but sweet, I was part of the WIVK air staff at a great time...I should say I got to work with many greats!
Two of those greats that I still stay in touch with are Dan Bell and Dave Young! Enjoy the 101 Audio Vault~

It's a classic CAT Saturday...cat of course was Claude Andrew Tomlinson, he signed WIVK on the air back in 1953 and had a 40 year career there!
Few will argue that Claude is at the top of the list of Ktown's all time radio greats...today we enjoy the banter between Claude and Wayne Bell and Lester and Mr. Schultz. The 101 Audio Vault features this "foursome"~

I never would have dreamed that one day modern technology would allow me to share the thousands of hours of airchecks I made of Knoxville radio...and if you have photographs and memories and airchecks, send them to 101!!!
I've been searching to remember via air checks, the first croaking sounds at WIVK. The "wivick" termonolgy was the precursor to the frog mascot.
I have a WIVK composite from October 1976 featuring all the greats of that era...Jimmy Vineyard, Ed Brantley, Jean Ash, Bobby Denton, Tony Eubanks, Your Dave Young, Claude Tomlinson, Wayne Bell, Bill Carnett, Paul Lyle, Terry Womack and Dan Bell!
The 101 Audio Vault features Claude Tomlinson (and Lester Longmire) on the air. Listen as they talk to traffic sargeant Wayne Bell, Claude says "wivick copter"...
PS~ No other personality on the composite was croaking "wivick"...

Hey George!
Saw this note on 101- asking who were the DJ's on 93.1 before STAR took over -
Z-93 WWZZ "Where Knox Rocks", "It Takes Balls To Rock Hard" and "We Keep It Harder Longer" were some of our slogans.
I was employed by the Benns Brothers (Robert and Michael ~ owners) back in '90-'91...
Our lineup in March of 1991 was:
6-10 Hammer and Harley (Mark Herzog/Patty Jarnigan)
10-3 Burger Man (Dave Jeffries)
3-7 Smasher (Dave Cockrell)
7-12 J.D. The Partyfoul (me, J. D. Howard)
Weekends were Kevin Johnson, Lori Morgan (Becky Peeden) and myself.
Other DJ's before me and after me were: John Wilkerson, Jim (Lucas) DeFreece, Roger Epperson...
Our chief engineer was self-proclaimed broadcasting Einstein Charlie Biscoe. Charlie rewired an OPTIMOD just because he thought it could sound "better"...and let's not forget "The Hillbillies From Hell" What were they thinking?
Ted Ousley left WIMZ to work 7-12 after I left, changed his name to "Gunner," and the rest is history.

Knoxville and East Tennessee radio history is being made everyday! Thanks to modern technology dial twisting has taken on a new meaning...find a smart phone app, search for a station, and listen in!
A couple of long time Ktown voices can be heard in the drive times at WMTN 1300 Morristown, Your Home of Classic Country and NASCAR~ Chris Hensley works mornings and Ron Cantwell "Hoss" drives you home, and Tim Crews is squeezed in the middle from 9-2!!!

Long/Short~ 101 is on facebook with both Ed and Bob, the morning dynamic duo on WNOX, this morning I got a bday wish from them on my FB page...I replied back that I was tuned in to their show, next thing I know I'm getting a birthday greeting on the 100000 watt blow torch of East Tennessee. PS~ I started working with Ed and Bob back in '76 on WIVK!
