WRJZ was hatched in late 1976 on the 620 AM dial position. As WATE and then WETE, the station had been light rock, MOR sounding with a fun group of DJs including Jim Humphries, Curtis Parham, Ernie Baker, Walker Johnson, Harry Robert Shaw, etc.

The WRJZ "rock" format lasted from late '76 to late '81...about 5 years, and what a station it was...very slick sounding with really good DJs and a strong news department. One of the dominating personalities was the night DJ...John Boy Isley. John Boy cut his teeth in Ktown, he was young but very talented and his nights at WRJZ were the precursors to his John Boy and Billy fame.

Today the 101 Audio Vault fatures John Boy~
