This is what 101 is all about, hearing from the legends like Dick Winstead~
"I was just checking out the blog and noticed that you mentioned Eddy Roy, he and I use to work together when he hired me from WKGN to WNOX after 'KGN was sold and we all split. Just so you will know, Wayne Bernard or Charlie Chase or Chase of Crook n Chase brought me to 'KGN from Kingsport where I gave him his first afternoon drive slot at WKIN. We grew up together in Rogersville and in high school we both worked at WRGS in Rogersville. When I got out of the ARMY with the American Forces Radio and TV network I was hired as morning man at WKIN and talked Wayne into working afternoons, frankly; we ruled the Tri-cities during that time, it was off the charts. Then he left for WKGN and later I came to WKGN, yep Bob Baron. I was happy to get into a larger market and worked swing at 'KGN plus handled production. It was a learning experience for me. So when we split Roy gave me a call and I agreed to do the morning news, yes I can't believe it either it was a start and in a few months went to mid mornings and then moved to afternoons for couple years before I left for a major Job with Flanigan's in Miami. My heart is still in Knoxville and I've spoken to many radio friends that remember those years. It was really a blessing. Oh if you would like to hear me now try this Music for His Glory a syndicated Christian program. Yep older and wiser and happy in of all places Chattanooga near my son and grand kids! P.S. I've heard you play me mid mornings do you have me in afternoon drive? Here's a real test how about doing the news for Roy in the morning, my handle was Richard W Bailey..Would like to share it with my son and grand children.Love you guys.." (Dick Winstead)
