101 dropped in on Walker and Swang on Friday and was a guest on their Voice South show!

Today 101 hears from Sundra~

Glad to know my name is still floating around down there in K-town and beyond. I traded in Thompson as a last name more than 20 years ago. Now go by Sundra Hominik. Wow. I'd almost forgotten about WATO-WETQ radio. I was there for a wild five months from April 1981 to August 1981 before joining WATE TV (and if you check your KtownRadio archives you'll see I was sent packing from WATE in 1984 along with some other greats.) People now don't believe it when I tell them I worked at country music station. I remember the words to one of the hot hit songs that summer: I'm just an ole lump of coal but I'm gonna be a diamond some day. Many of you may not know that my love for radio and journalism started back in early to mid 1970s when I was a teen listening to WKGN. Wasn't it Joe Anderson who was the news anchor? He got me hooked on news. I'm still in the the biz sort of. Now as senior editor at Richmond Times-Dispatch. See what I do for a living now at http://www.timesdispatch.com/. Ran into another former broadcaster (albeit TV) up here in Richmond. Tom Poe from the WBIR in the 70s.
